16.-18. April 2011 Berck sur mer
A little bit spontaneous this year I (Florian) went the first time to Berck. Annika took one day holiday so I could stay three complete days in France– that was really great.
I started my journey in the night between friday and saturday at 2 o’clock. I arrived at calm Berck after 6 hours driving (I wanted to test how less fuel our car needs by driving slowly – 4,6l/100km). But it didn`t take a long time until I met the first kitefliers who were waiting at the tourist information.
After getting a parking ticket I went to the windgardens. There I met Gerhard and Daniela from Austria. I was allowed to part their cabin at the beach for the next 3 days.
Before I went to Berck I heard of impressions like „5-7 beaufort“, „snow“, „long pants“. But these days we had 20 degrees and no wind – nice, too.
After a good lunch together in the tent we met Heinrich Hohmann and René Meier. Thanks for the vouchers! Now three funny and good days could start. Together we had a lot of fun. We talked about kites and other themes and enjoyed the weather. Every day we had smoothly wind and a lot of sun.
I got very good impressions of Berck. It is true: there are really so many visitors every day. It is unbelievable how many people come to Berck only to watch kites. And the kitefliers honor that so the sky is really full of kites. But there is a big difference between weekend and during the week. On monday the sky was not so full of kites. What a shame, because the weather on monday was quiet better than sunday so we could have make better KAP pictures then.
Speaking of KAP: there was an exhibition tent for KAP pictures at the promenade. Sadly there was not enough space to show my new printed pictures to the visitors. But it’s ok because there were a lot of other KAPers showing their stuff.
Every day we had lunch in the big tent at the beach together with all kitefliers. In the evening all kitefliers were allowed to check nearly 25 restaurants in the city for their „menues de cerf-voliste“. There we got good food payed with our vouchers of the festival. The best thing is: we became acquainted with the french cuisine. We know how it is to eat bowles of goat now, too. *Damn*
Unfortunately three days were over too fast and I had to go home. For me it was a good idea to do the trip with 1060km. Thanks a lot to Gerhard, Daniela, Heinrich, René and Georges for three wonderful days!
I’m sure: it was not my last trip to Berck!
