31. Festival Internazionale dell Aquilone
22.4. until 1.5.2010 • Pinarella di Cervia
Every year in the middle of april we recognize how short is a year. Then we get stressed about our activities for Cervia – our first festival in the year.
Because of the last 8 years we know that Cervia has a guarentee for good wind and 10 days of sunshine. But this isn’t real for the last few years – in 2011, too.
Unfortunately the two days with sun all around the clock were the arrival and the departure day. During the week the weather was a „funny“ mix between sunshine, clouds and rain and temperatures between 13 and 25 degrees.
But there was sunshine every day – sometimes only for a few hours.
This ist the reason why all KAPers started their action on wednesday.
One good part of the bad weather was that we could check the new banjos which let it be very easy to change the festival placement this year.
Also many international groups changed the country dinners into country lunches. So there was only one day without a lunch for all kitefliers. On some days we had two at the same time.
Here a little lunches timetabel at the beach: Monday – Austria, Tuesday – Sardinia and Spain (in the evening like every year), Wednesday – France and Germany, Thursday – USA, Saturday – Italy and India.
Often we heard the myth Cervia would be a festival for gourmets in a few years, with kiteflying as little funny thing in the background. We hope it won’t be that way! But the lunches at the beach were very good. So the german lunch is booked – definitely.
Despite the weather we had a parade with many flags and banners this year again. We walked through the city in front of a shopping mall and caused quiet a stir. Very good action!
But there were a lot of kites this year, too. Some old but also a lot of new ones.
The best hours at the beach we had in the evenings, when the sun shone warm to the kites at the sky.
Florian had a project for Cervia 2011 to have a bigger diversity at the sky.
Let us face it: how many kites do you take with you for a kite festival like Cervia? And how many do you take home without only one flying day?
This was his plan this year: there has to be a kite at the sky every day which has not been flown the days before. And it worked! Although there were days with two or three „unflown“ kites at one day.
Sure, there were also kites which flew every day. Like our new poster genki, one half of our project for Cervia 2011.
Inspired by „Andalo Vola 2010“ our daughter Lena and Annika like the Barbapapas very much. So Florian built a poster genki with the whole family and four flags with two or three family members.
But there was a fact we didn’t know before: ALL Italian children knew the Barbapapas and beset our flags all day long.
After a lot of good talks with other kitefliers we know that Barbapapas are very famous in France and Israel, too.
The white veils were another spontaneous project by Florian. On Saturday the second day of the festival Florian built them up on a bank of sand. But tides changed every day, so there was no more day without water on it. It was a little ritual to get off his trouthers and walk into the really cold sea every morning and evening,. But then you get really warm!
By writing this article about this 10 days I recognize how full of action and diversified this festival was.
Some short words of other actions: edo combination flight with Heinrich Hohmann, rokkaku challenge, heavy rain before the „notte dei miracoli“ and a lot of funny evenings in front of the hotel and in the barrumba bar.
Result: the weather was not really good, but it was a fantastic festival. Thanks a lot to Claudio and Caterina!
We’re looking forward to Cervia 2012 – and then we will be four!
