19.6.-3.7.2011: Istrien (Liganj and Rovinj)
Directly from Andalo we drove to Istria, the north west of Croatia. Here we had two fantastic weeks with beautiful weather. Every day we made an excoursion to one or two of the little towns at the east coast of Istria. We had a lot af walking, talking, hanging around and eating.
For me there were two days with KAPing (doing Kite Aerial Pictures). For having such beautiful holidays with a lot of selfmade food by our renters, we wanted to say thank you with something special. Therefor I took a picture of our house from the seaside. We printed this picture in a small shop in Opatija and did it in a picture frame.
For the second KAP trip I went to Rovinj, a little beautiful town at the west coast of Istria. We went there with our two families two days before, too. But there was no time to fly kites then.
On wednesday afternoon I drove 80km allone through a fantastic landscape. Arriving in Rovinj I had a perfect wind condition: the sun was shining from the sea and a very smoothly wind blows the same direction.
So I was able to start the rokkaku down at the promenade behind the church. Only 5 minutes later the rig was in the air. Many people asked me what I was doing there. And they said that I would bring the best holiday pictures back to home. I think so, too!
I walked down the promenade very slowly, watching the coast and many places where people were swimming. These people I pictured from above while they – mostly the kids – jumped into the water.
After this I tried to get approached pictures of the church. Therefor I went to the west end of the promenade. Sadly the wind wasn’t strong enough and the rokkaku has not enough pull. Now I know that I need a really thin kite line.
So I put the rig and the kite off the sky and walked to the church up to the hill. There I tried to start the rokkaku again. But in case of the stairs in front of the church the wind was very unstable. It seems that it was blowing from everywhere at the same time. After a few minutes I got the kite to the sky again – directly in front of the church. Only a few moments later the camera took the first pictures of the nave of the church. For the tourists it was a very unusual view. For me it was a lot of adrenaline.
Unfortunately the wind fadet out and I had to pack all stuff; exuberantly happy after 2 hours.
At home I could not believe that I took more than 900 pictures – and nearly all are sharp and colourful. So it was a very hard job to decide which one to show at the website. I hope there are not too much pictures and you enjoy. I realy like them all!
If I will come back to Istria, I will come back to Rovinj, too!
